#10 - Overcoming Obstacles
Hey, hey ladies. Welcome to episode number 10. We're going to talk about overcoming some obstacles in this episode. But first, I want to tell you guys, I put the last couple of weeks. I just got back from the busiest, most emotional, best two weeks that I've had in a really long time. I took a couple of my athletes out to Kelowna, we've road tripped out. And another athlete flew out and met us there. And then we went from Kelowna on to Calgary where we rented a house and we had a bunch of athletes staying at the house and some husbands, and we had the best time you guys, we did pajama posing. We did poolside posing in Kelowna, that was super fun. We went shopping. We did all kinds of things. And in Calgary, I guess now when this episode airs, it'll be a couple of weekends ago. I had five athletes compete at the WNBF Calgary pro/am. And you guys, all five of them blew my mind. Their sportsmanship and their kindness to other athletes, their willingness to help, the excitement and positive energy they had backstage, like just everything, how they performed on stage. As a coach and as an athlete, I know that it's super fun to walk away with hardware and all of them did, which is amazing to have all five athletes podium. They just did so well, I could not be a prouder coach. You guys. It was incredible. And then I got to stay with a good friend of mine who also had competed. She's one of my athletes too, I stayed with them for a couple of days in Calgary and had some fun. They have an in-home daycare and I got to run around filming these amazing kids you all. And then I drove back by myself. And it was so nice to just have that space to listen to my own brain talk and think and plan. I stopped in Kelowna and had a night in a hotel, which I was telling you guys I was going to do. I had my favorite bottle of wine. I had a big bath. And met with the promoters from the Kelowna show, made some good friends. And then drove home and was so happy to be back at home. I had missed my husband. I missed my bed. I miss my office, you all. So happy to be back in my office. I love my office. I'm looking outside right now at this beautiful green space outside, my office window is a Creek and there's trees and they're turning fall colors right now. And it's so pretty. All right. That's an update on my life, just to let you know that I'm still recovering from the two weeks of excitement. How I described this to my athletes is every time one of my athletes steps on stage, I feel like I'm competing. I get all the same emotions, the anxiety, the nerves, the fear, the excitement, the adrenaline, all of it. And I get some extra fields as a coach, right. So I had over the course of two weekends, my athletes competed in. Let me see if I can get this right here, 3, 5, 6, 14 different categories. So I felt like I competed 14 times. It was exhausting. So I'm still recovering. I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed. Also the amount of interest that we have had in training, for next year for competition and just for weight loss has been really intense, over the last couple of weeks so I'm sifting through all the new inquiries. So if you're out there and if you're one of the people that's waiting, I apologize. I know right now it's about a month long wait to get in for a consultation with me. I'm working as fast as I can, you all. It's busy. And I love that it's a good problem to have, but I also have to remember to take time for myself and to decompress and to make sure that my brain gets some time to unwhlemed itself. Because Lylas, isn't helpful to anybody when she's overwhelmed, you all. All right, you guys, let's dive into episode 10.
We're going to talk about overcoming obstacles. This is something we all deal with, right? We all can have a reason to not do it. We all can have an obstacle in our way, an obstacle between us and our goal. If there were no obstacles, we probably already have achieved it, right. If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be worth it. Let's talk about some obstacles, should we. Should we talk about some of the common obstacles. I want to tell you about an obstacle that I had first thing, this morning or about a thing. Let's just talk about this for a minute. So I went to the gym at 6:00 AM this morning. First day of a brand new workout, I hadn't been to my home gym in a couple of weeks because I've been on the road. And I wanted to make sure I had everything because I've been to the gym and have forgotten my shoes or my headphones or my keys to get into the gym or, you know, all of the things and it stopped me. So this morning I was really like focused on not forgetting anything. And I got to the gym. And I had my shoes and I had the keys to get in and I had my headphones. I put them in my ears and then I realized that I had forgotten my phone which for those of you who train with me, you know that, your phone is a pretty important part of your workout when you're doing a brand new workout because the workouts are all laid out and videoed and tracked in an app on your phone. And my phone is my music device, right? So at first my brain was like, oh, time to go home, you forgot your phone. You need to get it, you can't do a workout without it. And I took a minute and I questioned my brain. I was like, can't I do a workout without my phone. I'm pretty sure I can't. And I decided that the workout that I was doing was a workout that I was semi-familiar with. I had written it myself a few weeks ago. And I had looked over it this morning before I left for the gym. So I was pretty familiar with what it was. So in my lovely gym fanny pack, I have a notebook and pen. Because I always come up with ideas when I'm at the gym and I like to hand write them rather than put them in my phone. Because as soon as I turn on my phone, I get distracted, right. You guys know this, you do it too. Come on, be honest. So I pulled out my notebook and pen and I wrote down the workout as I remembered it. And I worked out with no headphones in, I just listened to the music in the gym. I actually made a couple of new friends because I talked to some other people that didn't have headphones in. And I went through my workout, you all and I was so proud of myself for not allowing that obstacle of not having my program or my phone with me to stop me from achieving my goal, this morning.
So let's talk about some other obstacles. What I'm going to teach you guys about overcoming obstacles. You can insert any obstacle that you have in. So let's talk about maybe a husband not supporting fitness goals. So first off, a husband not supporting fitness goals. My husband not supporting my fitness goals is a thought you are thinking. Remember, last week we talked a little bit about thoughts, creating feelings. And how they stop our motivation in its tracks? Well, the thought is that my husband doesn't support my fitness goals.
How does that make you feel? Terrible right. Unsupported, like he doesn't care. Like, why should I even bother, all of those things? But it is just a thought and we don't really know if our husband doesn't support our fitness goals. He just, he doesn't really know what that even looks like, right. We don't need anybody else to support our fitness goals. If we have thoughts, like I'm going to do this no matter what. And I can lead by example. You know, if you start on your fitness goals, he's going to feel pretty out of shape soon. Maybe he'll come Colin. Right? Maybe he'll get on that bike too. So what I've found when it comes to obstacles, any obstacle that is in your path that makes the distance between you and your goal seem more difficult. And you guys can do this. You can sit down and write down your goal at the top piece of paper, let's say the goal is to lose 20 pounds or to compete at your first competition. Write it down at the top of the piece of paper. Maybe your goal is just to do a workout every day, this week, or hit the gym three times this week. Write it down at the top of a piece of paper. And then I want you to write down all of the obstacles that could stop you from achieving that goal, let your brain go wild. What might stop you? Not managing your time, looking at social media, your kids needing something, work, right. All of it, traffic. What, what might stop you write down all of the things that could stop you from achieving that goal. Now, literally the work that you need to do to achieve that goal is overcoming all of those obstacles. Most of the obstacles on your list is just a thought switch, right. Like this morning with me, for getting my phone. I could have had the thought that I can't do my workout without my program. I can't do my workout without music. I'll just go home and get it and come back, which I probably wouldn't have. I'll just do it this afternoon, which I probably wouldn't have, right. I could have let my brain go down that road, but instead I stopped it and I thought switched to, I'm not going to be interrupted. Right. Like I actually was thinking I'm like, this might be a positive thing. Maybe I should stop bringing my phone to the gym because I wasn't distracted by wanting to look at social media. I didn't get text messages from my VA all morning, during my workout, it was actually really nice to be able to just go in and focus on me. I did miss the music, but the music at my gym wasn't terrible. So, if you can thought switch through some of the obstacles that are more mindset related, and then any obstacles that you have that are time management, work focused, kid focused, all of those things that could get in the way, because they're a bit more spontaneous. What that requires is just a little bit of planning. So, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds. And one of the obstacles is your husband likes to order out. Maybe that's just you sitting down and having a discussion with him, actually me and my husband did this, just recently when I got back. Both of us are wanting to tone up and condition a little bit, going into the holiday season. We're heading home to see some families, some old friends. And we've decided that until we leave, we're not going to eat out more than once a week. So that was a decision we made together. Now, if you have a husband that likes to eat out more than that, coming up with a game plan for how you can still achieve your goals. We can't change him. We can't. We're going to have a whole episode about this in the future, you guys. Other people are allowed to do whatever they want. So if your obstacle is someone else. And you need them to change in order for you to achieve your goal. It's never going to happen my friends. It's ever going to happen. So I highly recommend that you change your opinion, your thoughts about needing them to change, right? Husband's allowed to eat whatever he wants. Husband's allowed to do whatever you want, support, whatever he wants. Kids are alive. Well, kids aren't allowed to do whatever they want. But, kids are allowed to think what they think, right? People are allowed to be exactly who they want to be. What we get to do is we get to choose what we think and how we react to that. So let's say the husband wants to continue to order pizza twice a week. And your goal is to lose 20 pounds. So, what can you do? How can you make this work? How can you be a fantastic example to your husband of how you can chase your own goals, whether he, I'm quotation supports them or not. Maybe you can look at the pizza place he orders from and see if they have a nice big Greek salad. You could order on nights, he has pizza so that you don't have to cook either. But you can stick to your goals, maybe a grilled chicken, Greek salad, or grilled chicken Caesar salad or something like that. Maybe you suggest making pizza at home and then you can go with a lower carb crust and you can still have pizza too. Maybe you have your meal pre-made and you eat it a little bit early and then retire to your bathroom for a nice hot bubble bath while he eats his pizza. Right. It's all about the game planning, it's all about moving around it.
The other option is for you to try and tell him he can't order pizza twice a week which all of a sudden makes him feel like you've put him on a diet too. And that might only last for so long, right? He might be totally down for it. Some husbands are on board, but some are not. And we can look at this as an obstacle or we can look for a solution. So anything that comes in your path that makes you feel like you can't move forward. I get this one a lot. So in the 16 Week Transformation Program, it's my signature weight loss program. I get a lot of women who come in who are like, I don't want to eat the same thing every day. And their brain has literally created an obstacle for them out of nothing, out of an obstacle that isn't even there. They have a thought that I don't want to eat the same thing every day, it will get boring. But the only reason that, that is an obstacle, that it's a problem is because of the thought that they're having. If they have the thought, I'm going to try eating the same thing every day and see if it works for me or I'm going to find food. I really enjoy eating every day so that I can achieve this goal. My friends when it comes to losing weight and testing out your body, researching your body. Consistency is so, so important. I'm going to be talking about this in the upcoming webinar that I'm going to be doing for the entire transformation program. I've decided I'm going to be having it actually in December instead of November, just because my November schedule is insane. But, if you want in, on that webinar, I'm going to be talking about the three things that I think everybody needs to do, if they want to lose weight. And the three things that I teach in the transformation program in depth. You can go over to my website, lylasleonas.com. Click on transform and get on the waitlist. The waitlist isn't a commitment to sign up for the program. It just gives you access to that upcoming webinar and access to me to ask all the questions you want live about the program, or just about weight loss in general. The next transformation program starts January 10. And you guys, I think it's going to sell out. Registration opens up December 1st. Waitlist people will have access first. Okay. Back to overcoming obstacles. So let's talk about some obstacles. Maybe let's say you're thinking about signing up for the transformation program. And let's say, your feeling like finances are an obstacle for you. So, what I would do here is I would write down the transformation program, which is your goal at the top of the page. And write down what your obstacles are. So if finances are an obstacle for you, write that down, write down every other obstacle that you're having. If you focus on, I can't afford this program, it's too expensive, I don't know how it's going to be possible for me, your brain will prove to you that you can't afford it. It's too expensive. And the result you get is that you won't sign up. That you will find it to be too expensive. But if you ask your brain how you can afford this program, how this program can be possible for you, your brain, your super smart human brain will go to work on how to make it possible for you. Maybe that's budgeting a little bit less in a few other areas. Maybe that means eating out less like me and my husband are saving up for this snowboarding trip we're doing in January and are eating out less funds for the next three months are totally going towards that January snowboarding trip. So maybe, you know, bring down the entertainment expenses over the next few months. Maybe you decide to put $50 a week aside between now and Christmas, so that you can treat yourself to this transformation for your own Christmas present. When you ask your brain good questions. When you ask your brain, how can I achieve this? What can I do to make this happen? It's pretty amazing, the opportunities that show themselves. Maybe you work an extra shift for the next few months in order to afford it.
You guys, I've had so many women during that programm during that 16 weeks get promoted. Go after a job that they wanted, that they never thought they could have, the mindset work that we go over in the transformation program, the overcoming of all obstacles, the self-confidence. Like a side from the weight loss, nutrition component of that program, the mindset component and the teaching you how to think your way into generating a certain feeling so that you get the results you want in your life, can change everything. It's pretty magical. I'm impressed with this program. This podcast has totally turned into a sales speech for the transformation program, but you guys it's my signature program for a reason. All right.
So let's talk about this really quickly if you are in Lady Sculpt 2.0, I'm not going to do a podcast extension for overcoming obstacles because you guys have a three part series called how to solve any problem, which is even more in depth than this overcoming obstacles. Literally how to solve any problem just breaks down s teps to solve any problem. Get around any obstacle, but for those of you who are just listening in on the podcast, what I want you to do is whenever you have a goal, Whenever you want to do something in life. And you have an obstacle. I want you to sit down.
I want you to write down the goal that you want to achieve. What the obstacle is, what all the obstacles are. And I want you to create a plan. I also want you to question your thoughts that could be creating the obstacle. Is the obstacles even an obstacle or is it just your way of thinking about it? That's making it a problem. That's kind of some insider sneak peek there on how to solve any problem. Are you guys, that is the time I have for you today. I'm so happy to be back in my office recording. I'm excited to get the next few podcasts recorded for you before we leave for Vegas. I'll talk to you guys next week. Until then, have a fantastic, fantastic November. Bye for now.
