#39 - Your WHY
Hey, hey ladies, how are you? Okay. So I just got back from Edmonton. I was in Edmonton for four nights. I had such a good time. I know you guys. I feel like life is just going my way right now. It was such a productive and just enjoyable experience. I didn't have any athletes competing in Edmonton. I was just there to be a judge and it was so relaxing. It was really nice. I got a ton of work done. I spent all day Friday, in my room working. And I shouldn't say all day, I went to Starbucks and worked there for a little while too, but I got so much done. And then Saturday was the show. I had so much fun sitting on the judging panel, watching our amazing amateur athletes and then giving them feedback and encouraging them to keep going. And what they needed to do to get to that next level. And then we went out on Saturday night. I went out with the girls and the rest of the judges. And we just had a really good social connecting time. I needed that so much. I was talking to my Uber driver on the way home actually and we were talking about how our world has become disconnected a little bit because of COVID. And I recognize that connection is so important for our mental health and for our overall life experience. So that's definitely something that I'm putting more effort into this year is getting off of the screens a little bit and connecting more in-person, I'm also setting up some plans for Lady Sculpt our membership to do more in-person events. Uh, because we need that. We need that community, that person to person that, Hey, do you need a hug? Right, experience, it's part of being human. So if you're feeling really disconnected, deregulated, lonely, just get out, go meet some people, call a friend. Go join a club, even just go sit in a Starbucks with people around you physically, it makes a big difference. All right. So I had the best time and now I'm at home. And now we're getting back into work and doing things, but we've got Colona around the corner. I've got a couple of weekend events coming up. I'm heading up to Whistler this weekend for one of our sculptors is having a launch party for her new career, which I'm super stoked for us or going to a lunch party on Saturday. And then on Sunday, I'm meeting with one of my team members to discuss some upcoming creative content that we want to do. It's going to be good. We're having some good vibes going into June. You guys, I think this summer is going to be amazing. And when you think. The summer's going to be amazing. It is because the results we create in our life come directly from the thoughts that we have. Right. So if you don't think this summer's going to be amazing. You got to do some thought work on that. You got to switch that around a little bit. All right. You guys, we are in episode 39. Which is my last live episode of the competition prep series. Next week, I'm going to have a special episode for you. You're going to have to tune in to find out what's so special about it.
But I really wanted to do this episode because I think having a, why is so important, not just for competition, but having a why for a weight loss goal, or having a why for anything you want to do in life whatever goal you have in front of you, especially if it's big you guys, which I think comp prep is a big goal. I think that, uh, most of us, when we set our eye on comp prep, it feels very unachievable. It feels almost impossible. So it's a big goal. And if we don't have a big why, we can get bogged down by our brain drama, because whenever we set a big goal that forces us to up level who we are as a human, our brain is going to push back because our brain doesn't want to up level as a human. Our brain is quite happy being the human that we are because it thinks that this is the safest place to be. It thinks competition is a scary, terrible idea. Right, because there's the possibility of failure and humiliation and all of those negative feelings we've talked about in previous episodes. So our brain is going to show us all of the reasons we shouldn't do it. It's going to show us all of the roadblocks. It's going to show us all of the social things we're going to miss out on. It's going to give us a thousand reasons we shouldn't do this. So our, why needs to be so big and so powerful that, that why is it more important to you? Then everything, your brain is spitting out at you. So, some people want to get into comp prep just to see if they can do it. And that's a good place to start, but I would suggest taking that and turning it into eight bigger why? Something like I want to see what's possible with my body. I want to see what my body is capable of.
Let's go. Do you see the difference between, I just want to see if I can do it and I want to see what my body is capable of. There's a different energy between those two sentences. Also some people just want to compete for attention and if that is the reason you're competing. I highly recommend that you do some soul searching. You do some inner work because I feel you. I know what that's like in my twenties, I spent a lot of time looking for external validation. Right? A lot of us are raised in that kind of way. We're brought up in the school system to do well, to appease the teachers. And we are taught to behave, to appease our parents. And so as we get into adults, we want to appease our peers and we want to be recognized for what we're good at and our talents. And we want to appease the opposite sex or the same sex depending on your sexual orientation, but we want to, you know, be attractive to the people. And if this is something that you're noticing about yourself first off, no shame. Okay. We don't beat ourselves up here. We recognize we become aware. We notice that we're looking for that external validation. And what I want you to do is try and internalize it. And what I mean by this is I want you to take that, I want to do this for attention. It will give me. And turn it into internal, I want to do this for me. I want to see what I can do with my body so that I feel like the best possible version of myself, because when you feel like the best possible version of yourself, people are going to notice, they're going to be like, what is she doing? I want some of that. Right. Because when you feel like the best possible version of yourself, you show up in a totally different way. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Which is such a cool energy. When we're in a space where we're trying to get external validation and we want other people to comment and compliment us and approve of what we're doing, our emotional state becomes heavily dependent on that feedback. And if that feedback isn't positive, the motivation disappears very rapidly. It also is very dis-empowering to hand over your emotional well being to other people we're going to do a whole podcast on this outside of competition prep. But when we are looking to other people to validate us and make us feel a certain way, we literally are giving them all of our power. When we decide that we are going to think, thoughts that make us feel a certain way on purpose, it is so powerful. So just notice if one of the reasons you're doing this as for external opinions or because a friend is doing it and that's not a terrible reason to do it. I have athletes that have competed because a friend was doing it and it turned into such an amazing collaboration, but this is something I work with my athletes during their prep. I asked them at 16 weeks out, why they're doing it, what they want to get out of it. And if I noticed that their, why isn't as strong as it could be, or is a little bit more externalized than it could be, we work on it. Sometimes they don't even know. I'm working on it with them. But we want to get to the point. We're when they're stepping on that stage. It's a hundred percent for them. It's because they want to see what's possible for them. They want to see what's possible with their body. It has nothing to do with anybody else? And that kind of takes us back to last week's podcast. Right? So having that solid why. Now, your why may be because you know, you're coming back from being a mama for the last 20 years, and maybe you're nearing your 40th or your 50th birthday, and you've really let yourself go. And you just want to, you know, feel good in your skin again. That is why I want to feel the best I possibly can in my skin. Another great why is, I want to see what's possible for this 45 year old body or this 50 year old body, or I want to be an example of what is possible to my children or to the people around me, to my family. Like, do you see how these wise kind of go bigger than it just being about the aesthetic or just looking a certain way or just losing 40 pounds. Right. We want to make it so powerful that when you wake up in the morning and you read your why. I want to be an example of what is possible. When you live a sculpted lifestyle. Boom, all of a sudden the desire to stay in bed dissipates and you are ready and pumped to go to the gym and show people and be an example of what is possible. When you are offered a cookie, rRight. And your brain's like, yes, let's have the cookie. And your prefrontals are like, hey, is this an example of what is possible? Right. Like having that, why at the forefront of every decision you make during comp prep, when you're chasing your goals is a great motivator to keep you focused and on track. And I'm not saying we're perfect over here. You guys, nobody's perfect. The goal is not perfection. The goal is progression. So we want to be better than we were yesterday, better than we were last week, better than we were last month, last year. Right. We're moving our way towards that future version of ourselves that you 2.0 that you created back in episode number six that might transform reserve working on so hard this week. Right?
We want to create that and then we want to have a why behind it. Why is it so important to you to create that? What does it mean? Why does it matter? How is it going to change your life? How's it going to change the world? I know it's getting big here. But that's how I like to think, like when it comes to Lady Sculpt and, you know, even recording these podcasts for you guys each week. If I just wanted a podcast because I wanted to be cool. This podcast, there were so many days where I would have just been, like, I don't feel like it. But my why behind this podcast is because I think so much of what I know and teach nutrition and mindset should be available to everybody. No matter what you can afford, no matter how much money you make, no matter where you live in the world, no matter who you are. You should know, you should have access to information on how to manage your mindset. And chase your dreams and your goals and how to manage your macro nutrition, how to feed yourself for your best life and to be healthy and to be fit and to feel good.
Competition prep and muscle development is just what I'm known for, but I do think that everybody should have access to that information too. I'm a big believer that information should be available. And I love that in our day and age, we have things like YouTube and podcasts that are free and available to everybody to learn. I was talking to my Uber driver, the same Uber driver, actually that I was having the conversation about connectedness web. And he was telling me about a shoulder issue that is stopping him from golfing and he said that physio is too expensive. And I suggested to him, I'm like, just go to YouTube and Google shoulder physiotherapy. And I said, you may have to trial and error so of it. And you're really going to have to, you know, be in your own body. And listen to your shoulder and what it's telling you, but there is so much available content out there now, especially after COVID on physio, on rehabilitation, on working out. Like if you guys want to work out and you can't afford to pay for a personal trainer. It is, there is so much information out there that's available. One of the reasons I'm doing this 10 podcast series is for the people out there who want to compete, that maybe can't afford a competition coach. Again, that shouldn't stop you. Right, that shouldn't hold you back. So my why when I sit down to record this podcast each week is because I believe that what I'm teaching should be available to everybody. And then I feel really good about the people who come to me who want more help, want more accountability, who want more information when I charge them. I feel good about that because I know that the people who maybe can't afford it can't afford the membership. The information is still there. In the membership, we just take it deeper and I hold them more accountable. Right. They get more specific customized, personalized feedback. But what I teach you guys here on the podcast is the exact same thing that I'm teaching inside Lady Sculpt. It's the same foundational information. So for me, this podcast is about giving back. It's about creating value ahead of time. It's about making what I know available to everybody. I want that woman sitting on the couch who doesn't believe that it's possible for her to be able to listen to my podcast. And be inspired, be encouraged, be educated, maybe empowered and eventually take action towards whatever it is that she wants to achieve. I sit down and I do these podcasts for her, for all of you. And my why of being a coach, you guys for showing up and being a coach because I know. I know that the trifecta of macro nutrition, muscle development and mindset can change lives, can reshape bodies and can completely transform women. And I feel compelled to share that with people to help women to encourage them, educate them, empower them, elevate them. You guys know, my ears, right. It's important to me and now I have a new why in terms of Lady Sculpt in the membership. I'm creating my why there is to create a community of bad ass empowered women who support each other. And my why is huge there? I want to change the world. I grew up in a space where women were very competitive and very catty towards one another. And I grew up not trusting other women. And since I have done my own work on that and opened my heart up to trusting women, allowing them to come in, working with them, networking with them, helping each other become better versions of ourselves. You guys, I can't, I can't even put it into words. It's an amazing place to be. And yeah, I had to be a little bit vulnerable to get there. My why include opening up and being vulnerable and studying myself harder so that I can help other women open up, be more vulnerable and studied themselves harder. That's part of it and it is scary and it is risky and it is so worth it. So sit down, take a look at what your goals are and dig deeper than the superficialness of achieving that goal. Figure out your why, figure out what's going to motivate you and propel you towards that goal. No matter what. This is a game changer. Move you guys, this will help you achieve that goal, no matter what. All right, ladies. I will see you next week for a very special episode. Episode number 40 coming to you next week. Bye for now.
